Canal Fishing

Postby mroberts34145 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 7:52 pm

Due to rising costs, i have recently sold my boat, and am now fishing from shore. I have lived on marco island for 10 years, but have no experience with canal fishing. i am specifically talking about the canals along U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) and along I-75. Can some one give me some tips on what kind of baits/rigs/methods work best. thanks in advance to all. mike

I used to fish the Trail (US 41) before I got a boat...

There are many spots out there where night fishing can be really good. Here a few to try at night:

Off US 41, on SR 29, approaching Everglades City, where SR 20 crosses the Baron River... Fish that whole area with plugs . I liked 52mr mirr-o-lures and bombers.

US 41 and Port of the Islands.. Also very good.

And countless other spots on US 41 in that area. Anywhere the canals cross, split, widen or go under the road. I've caught fish at every location...

Here's a snook on fly taken - although the photo is 20 years old...
