We fished central Estero Bay Monday with Ron Scott and friends, Dan and Bob. We caught keeper sheepshead, and released small snapper, snook, jack cravalle, pufferfish and spadefish. In celebration of his father-in-law’s 80th birthday, Robert Gentry, his wife, and in-laws fished Estero Bay with us Tuesday, mostly under the trees around Wiggins Bay. We caught and released snook to 16 inches, keeper-sized sheepshead, and mangrove snapper. Fishing the artificial reefs Thursday with Fred Marunde and daughter, Christen, we caught keeper mangrove snapper & triggerfish, and released jack cravalle and gag grouper shorts. We battled two goliath grouper, and they won. We also saw one dead goliath grouper offshore, estimated at 200 pounds, and a dead manatee in the bay around marker # 46. Both were likely victims of red tide. The Jim Capel party fished with us Friday at the 240 Ledge, and also at the limestone strips 10 miles off Wiggins, in about 33 feet. The porpoise disrupted our plans a few times, but we caught ten keeper mangrove snapper, 9 keeper lane snapper, keeper triggerfish, porgies & grunts, and Spanish mackerel to 26 inches.
