The Kingfish run continues to dominate fishing in the Tampa Bay area.
Yesterday, Chris Lyons, from Kentucky, was hoping to land one of these speedy game fish. Trolling a large blue runner near the South County Artificial Reef, he had a fish strip off 200 yards on line on the initial run. One hour and 20 minutes later, a 10-foot Blacktip shark came into view. After snapping a few photos, we sent him on his way.
Fifteen minutes later, his first Kingfish was in the boat. Not bad for a 15 year-old who has never caught a saltwater fish before.

Inshore, Trout are still tearing up the grass flats. That is, if you can get your baits past the ravenous Bluefish. We have caught and released up to 20 weighing anywhere from 2 to 3 pounds on every inshore trip recently.

Tarpon are beginning to show on area grass flats as well. We spotted 2 cruising a weed line Tuesday while Trout fishing. It’s always a good idea to have a larger outfit aboard as they will show up just about anywhere between now and June.

Catch’em up!
