This past week, fishing offshore was somewhat ‘flat’, as the catches were not up to par.
Maybe it was the 2-tide days, as slow moving water can sometimes make fish lethargic.
Offshore catches were on the smaller size, with just 2 fish above the 22 inch mark for Gag Grouper. Luckily, a few Mangrove Snapper decided to dine, with a few of them tipping the scales at 3 pounds. Look for the bite to improve with next weeks’ 4-tide days and new moon. This change in the pattern may also be the catalyst for Kingfish, as a nice 40-pounder was reported in earlier this week.
Inshore, Spanish Mackerel continue to dominate the scene with fish as long as 28 inches coming over the rails. Just about every channel near a grassflat is holding these speedsters, along with a number of nice-sized winter Seatrout. With whitebait becoming more common every day, the Snook should be out of their winter haunts and on the flats soon.
Good Fishin’ to ya!
