This past Fourth of July weekend was a blast!
From the flats inshore to 33 miles out, fish cooperated at all times of the day.
Inshore, Trout are still very active hitting select shrimp on grass flats 3-8 feet deep.
Early morning hours are best, but we boated 4 over 16 inches during the hottest part of the day on the Fourth. Even the increased boat traffic did not deter these fish from feeding. Cameron Sohl, a 6 year old from Tampa caught the nicest Flounder I’ve seen in years. This fish came from a hole only 4 feet deep and measured 18 inches in length.
Offshore, Red Grouper are the mainstay. We fished the 90 foot Swiss cheese bottom only to find mostly undersized fish along with a couple of Sharks. We move to 100 feet and found them feeding non-stop on anything offered. We boated 3 in the 9 pound range, with nary a Shark in sight!
Goliath Grouper are still feeding at the South County Reef. Bring a Bonito and a 9/0 reel if you want to try and catch one of these behemoths!
Tight Lines!
