Winter Tampa Bay Fishing – April 8th, 2013

Image

Wow what awesome weather we have had this winter until March...the fishing had been very good also. The mild temperatures in January and February have kept the white bait around and it is plentiful in Tampa Bay. Snook bites have been coming on each charter with lots of trout and small reds mixed in.

While heavily chumming the snook grounds, we have seen some over 30" snook pop on our baits, yet, the birds have been difficult to fish through. The starving gulls have been blowing up the snook holes, and in one spot we even had to move on leaving the fish behind.

Here are some other fish from these recent trips:

Each winter brings the commercial mullet roe season, and we had a few days where we took advantage of this resource. Catching mullet in cast nets is a lot of work, but that is something that Captain Rick enjoys doing by himself. Mullet season is over and now our focus is on the coming King fish run and then Tarpon migration in May. Florida fishing is always great. Get out on the water and enjoy what the Sunshine State has to offer.
