This years fall Kingfish run has begun; albeit rather sporadically.
This past week, we caught 3 in the 10-pound range along with some nice Spanish Mackerel. Most fish were caught trolling threadfins and large whitebait.
Diving birds at sunrise was the key to locating them, with the Redington Long Pier the main attractant. The area at the end of this pier has been long known to hold great rocky bottom that attracts bait far and wide.
Inshore, Trout, Redfish and Snook are dominating the scene. With most flats holding large pods of bait, the fish are feeding heavily on the outgoing tide. Redfish are feeding heavily at the Redington Pier, as a fellow captain reported nearly 30 slot limit Reds caught and released on Monday afternoon. Snook have been active in the residential canals, but you must wait until after dark to catch them. There are many docks that have hoards of catfish on them, too. When you approach a dock with a lot of cats, scan the perimeter as the Snook will be just yards away from those pesky trash fish.

Good Fishin’ to ya!
