Roosterfish Costa Rica

Caught this 40lb+ roosterfish down at the Los Suenos in Costa Rica a few months ago. It was one the most exhausting 30 minutes of my life!! That fish kicked my ass!! To boot I was on a boat more suited for offshore than inshore. I was disappointed at first b/c the rods were very big trolling rods with thick bases used for sails/marlin. Since roosterfish were an inshore species I assumed we would be using light tackle. That roosterfish hit that big rod so hard it completely doubled over! The rod stayed that way except the 5-6 times it came six ft out of the water. It kept ripping out line which I was not ready for. It was February, and i hadn't fished since October. My core fishing time is from April-October. So I wasn't in peak fishing condition like l am from fighting tarpon all summer long. I almost had a heart attack in the process, but what a thrill of a lifetime!! Costa Rica is Pura Vida!! The local slogan that means life is good and much more. I highly recommend Costa Rica.
