Lake Eufaula, Alabama

Capt. Sam Williams
August 9, 2012
Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

Level 185.69 msl
Temp. 86+
Clarity, clear to slight stain

The river remains low, please use the cans and creek markers. The stumps are just under the surface. The marked river and creeks are safe to run, avoiding them could result in injury or a damaged boat.It is not worth the chance. Idle to the spots off the safe areas to fish.
Bass are still working the shallow cover areas well up into the day as long as the clouds stay up. As soon as the sun breaks through, look for the shad action right behind you. Big fish are feeding around the pads. A swimming worm has better hook up percentage. They are striking but not eating the bait, so the frogs are getting more missed hits.

Pan Fish are slow but where you can find any brush hanging in the water, they are working the area. With the water down, it is hard to find bank cover right now.

Cats are doing good. Still, setting up on the top of a drop and fishing the deeper water is producing table fare. You can also fish big pinks around the outer edges of the pads early and you will catch some while they are roaming around feeding on the bait. If you have found a site to set up where the pads are near a drop, you have the best of both worlds, fish from both sides of the boat and you will be busy for sure.

Be sure and keep plenty of sunscreen and water with you. It is fun on the water this time of year, if you stay hydrated and do not get burned up when the sun does come out. Keep a close eye on the clouds, the afternoon storms can come on you fast. Pay attention to the winds, they will alert you of changing conditions you may not be able to see with the high banks up river.

Please visit www.leekingmemorial.com and get your tickets to Fish for a Day with professional tour pros Tim Horton or Keith Pochet. Bonnie Plants has been good enough to make this fundraiser possible for our terminal children, please consider supporting us.

Enjoy Lake Eufaula, we have a great place to enjoy family time and God on our waterway.

God Bless & Good Fishn'
Capt. Sam
