Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake elevation 188.86 msl
Water Temperature Upper 40's - Lower 50's
Water Clarity River-heavy stain, Creeks - muddy
Bass fishing is picking up with the tournaments returning to Lake Eufaula. The deeper fish are still hitting slow moving baits. Jigs are still a good choice. As the sun gets up and the water temperature gets over 52 degrees, square billed cranks and lipless cranks near grass and wood will draw a strike.
Crappie have not moved up much for the most part, with the creeks so muddy the best spots are near the river ledges on trash piles. Vertical jigging above the school is working. Some of the braver fishermen are toughing the cold nights around the bridges and causeways are getting a few fish under the lights.
Bluegills are still hit and miss on creek banks where you find blow downs and bushes Live worms are the bait of choice.
Catfish will almost always cooperate when offered a good choice of cut bait. Bottom fishing is slower; a few jigs placed on the creek drops will almost always guarantee a good mess for the table.
The cold weather is not gone yet, dress warm, in layers, and enjoy the great spring fishing. The shad hatch has been really good the past few years, our fish are healthy and it looks like another great season in is store for those fishing Lake Eufaula, Alabama.
