Lake Eufaula Alabama For Big Largemouth Bass This Spring Season!

Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake Eufaula Alabama By Reed Montgomery / Reeds Guide Service (205) 663-1504 Birmingham, Alabama Website www.fishingalabama.com "Lake Eufaula Alabama oldest, professional -- bass fishing only -- guide service for over 40 years"

March 1st always triggers Lake Eufaula's big, largemouth bass to make their move in preparing for the upcoming spring spawn.

With a full moon on Sunday, March 16 bass anglers can rest assured there will be plenty of big bass in the lakes shallow weedy and wood covered waters.

But one spot many bass anglers overlook is the lakes rip-rap rock lined banks found around the lakes many bridges, around culverts, along banks lined with rocks for the prevention of erosion and the lower lake dam area.

In March these rock lined banks can heat up fast, especially with an ample supply of all day sunshine, coupled with air temperatures in the 70's or higher.

These rocky bank waters can be the first places Lake Eufaula's big, female largemouth bass move up as well...often in huge numbers!

Lures of all kinds can fool these big bass into biting and they can be found in all depths in March, from shalow water less than five feet deep to deeper water of 20-30 feet deep.

Fishing with the boat positioned parralel to these rock-lined banks an angler (or two anglers) can have a unique approach to these often sluggish, early spring bass.

A situation in the anglers favor, unlike when found fishing the lakes banks with lure hanging wood and weed cover!

Like said, "lures of all kinds" work here. But always bring a plug knocker, for you can lose some very expensive and often precious lures here while fishing in and around these man made rip-rap rocks! (Hint: Use strong line and long rods!)

Everything from shallow diving crankbaits to deep divers work here. Lipless lures, both floating model and suspending model hard bodied jerk baits are good lure choices all spring long and early summer as well.

Even spinnerbaits and chatter baits can be fished right down the shallow, rock-lined banks or dropped and allowed to slow roll into deeper depths found here.

All kinds of lures fished on or near bottom are good. Worms, lizards, crayfish imitations, beavers, jig combos, tube baits and small finesse plastics too! Bring plenty, they do hang up!

Jigging spoons, Alabama Rigs (and other multi lure rigs) are good including swim baits fished on light jig heads. Even several types of topwater lures will be good as waters begin to warm around these rocks.

Topwater Lures like: buzz baits, walking types like Zara Spooks, poppers, prop baits and even fake frogs can be good for big bass found along these rocks during low light periods like dawn, dusk, or on cloudy rainy days!
