Alabama Fishing Report for Lake Eufaula

Capt. Sam Williams
March 1, 2001
Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

The fishing on Lake Eufaula is booming. The night fishermen are loading the boats with Crappie on minnows. Tim Lynn, the new owner of the Driftwood General Store is holding a free Crappie tournamint. So far there has been one weighed in over three and one half pounds. The bait truck is making minnow deliveries every day. The Bass are staging and are in the shallows. The grass that grew so well during the drought is now the main hide out as the bass move to the bedding areas. Last weekend we had a tournament with 67 boats 61 weighed in fish, the winning stringer was 27 lbs. 8 oz.(five fish) This week in the F.L.W., Everstart elimination tournament. Yesterday was the opening day, there are 162 pro's and 148 co-anglers competing. The total weight released on Wednsday was 3199.2 lbs of bass and one lucky angler caught a catfish on his lure and had a nice supper last night. We look for another great day today as it will be mostly overcast again. Friday the top thirty will fish and Sat. the top ten will fish for the top prize. Big fish yesterday was 6 lb. 12 ozs.

Catfishing has continued to be productive for the more relaxed fisherman and the Hybreds are coming in and are doing welll in small jigs. The weather changes are slowing down the action when the sun is shining and the drop shot rig is producing well. The Tennessee or "T" rig is the ticket for the weight here in the rocky and stump structure. The people at Carlson Tackle have a weight that will allow you to fish all day instead of re-rigging from break offs. Give Randy Jo or 217 762 7746 and place an order, you won't believe the freedom you will experience with this "T" rig.

Call for info on a fishing experience of a lifetime. Lake Eufaula is full again and the fishing is awsome.

'Till next time,

God Bless & Good Fishn'

Capt. Sam
