Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

The raines have set in and the changing fronts have made set patterns a real challenge. The bass are still in the grass early and late with the cloudy days holding them later in the mornings. Floating worms, spinner baits and Texas rigged lizards are working well. The bigger fish are moving on the ledges as the sun rises and are hitting heave spinner baits, jigs trailed with big chunks and Carolina rigs using a mossy pumpkin lizard. Most fish this past week have been in 2' to 18' working from shallow to deep.
Crappie are moving deeper now that the water is warming up. Minnows are still the best bait. Some troopers are still toughing the mosquitos and catching a limit under the bridges at night.
The bluigill are biting good on crickets back in the sloughs, good opportunity for the bank fishermen. The big ones are being taken and make for a good meal.
Catfish are regular on worms about anywhere you choose to fish. The pond cats that entered the river during the flood several years ago have matured and are making for a great fight as well as the finest table fare.
The first Lee King Buddy Benefit Tournament was a big success thanks to the fishermen. We had 96 boats and God gave us the perfect weather for a nice day. First place was taken by Max Franklin and Mark Stillwell from Phenix City, Alabama with 19.52 lbs and $1500.00. Big Fish was won by the team of Don Duke and Danny Key, also of Phenix City with a Lunker weighing 6.24 lbs. Yhey took $1000.00, sponsored by Northlake Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep. The Smallest Legal Fish was won by the team of David Welch and Emory White from Eufaula, Al and Georgetoun,Ga. with a bluegill weighing .03 lbs. They were presented a check for $100.00 bu the Eufaula Tribune. Thank you for your part in making a difference. We will be selecting a date for next years event at our board meeting this week. Watch for the information in thei report.
