Alabama Fishing Report for Lake Eufaula

Capt. Sam Williams
April 8, 2004
Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

The March winds are staying around for April. With the winds coming from the West and North West, it is almost impossible to keep the boat on the outside river ledges. It is a little better on the creek drops at the river if you can get some land protection from the winds. The Bass are still in eight to twelve feet of water. The water temp is coming up and stays between the mid fifties to the lower sixties right now. The water level today is at 188.17 feet, a little up from last report. Water clarity is really clear inside the creeks and stained just right in the open water. The drought continues, the showers we had today are good for the garden but will have little effect on the inland waterway level. Fishing very slow is the key as the cold fronts have the bass in a confused state. The spawn is in every stage you can think of. Hopefully after Easter the weather patterns will steady themselves and we will be able to find patterns again. You can find fish in one place today and they will be gone tomorrow. Small jigs, spinner baits and small trick baits are doing okay, larger baits are getting hit, hook-ups are few.

The crappie are really getting started good, night fishermen are out in strong force under the causeways. Minnows and jigs are the bait of choice.

Catfish are hitting good on worms and crickets.

Bluegill are a little ways off in big numbers. Up in the creeks are going to be great for these good eating slabs.

Remember this inland waterway is ours to protect. There are those out there that would like to see the locks shut down and all the water kept up North. If you have any interest in enjoying the Walter F. George

system in the future, make it known to your political leaders that you will not stand by and see them vote to stop the dreading and other funds needed to keep up our River. We have as much right to the water and use of it as anyone upstream.

We are still getting in applications for the June 12, 2004 Lee King Benefit Buddy Tournament. Come and compete for a part of the $10,000.00 purse. Be sure and get your ticket for the 2004 Stratos 285PRO XL with the Mercury 150 XR6. Only a $100.00 donation will put you in the drawing. Go to www.leekingbenefit.org for all the details.

"Till next report,
