Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

The bass fishing is getting better by the day. As the heat continues to make it tough to stay on the water, the bass are finally staging on the ledges. They are on the first ledges right now, in 12 to 25 feet of water. The deeper creeks are holding a lot of fish. Carolina rigs and crank baits are producing well. During the Lee King Benefit Buddy Tournament we had a lot of deep fish coming on a lizard with an 18" leader. Make sure to take plenty of water and sun block with you. The lake level is at 189.2 6/23/04. The water temp. averages 88 degrees with some shallower areas reaching 92 in the afternoon. The water is stained just a little with a greenish tint.
Catfish are willing to offer a good time for the fisherman looking for a fresh fish dinner. Worms and cut bait have worked well. We ate several meals of catfish lately as we have had company and the youngsters did not want to bass fish in the heat.
Bluegill are hitting worms and crickets, we found a good bed in 12 feet of water. Shell crackers and red ears were hitting good.
Crappie are still doing good on jigs if you want to use the hit and run method. You can use your jig, hit one favorite spot, catch two or three and go to your next spot. If you have six or eight places, you can repeat this a few times and have a good mess for the table.
The 2004 Lee King Benefit Buddy Tournament and Kid's Fun Day was a big success. We had 110 teams compete, raised $31,000.00 with the Stratos/Mercury rig and are already working on the 2005 promotion. Visit www.leekingbenefit.org for all the details and results from this year.
