Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake Eufaula Alabama
Summer has taken a break and the cooler weather has been great. Even the sun is a welcome site with the temperatures at an unusual low for this time of year.
The Bass are still being stubborn on the ledges. It is still catch a couple and run to the next location. Carolina rigs and jigs are the trick. The Kanimi Nories Bug as well as the Skirted Grub are great along with the traditional Lizard. There are also working good in the grass in the shallows. Some prefer the Texas rig in the shallows, I like to continue to use the Carolina rig as it saves time keeping two rigs ready or changing over.
Lake Eufaula is experiencing an increase of hydrilla. This invasive plant is like a two edged sword. It holds bait fish, thus making it a very good place to find bass. It also can grow very fast and create a very expensive problem for our agencies charged with the task of keeping our waterways free from non-native plants and fish. Last week the only pattern we could put together was around the hydrilla patches near the mouth of the creeks. We used the same bait as we did on the shallows and ledges and picked up a hit every time we presented the bait.
The lake pool today is 188.86 MSL. The water is slightly stained to clear. Water temperatures vary from 86 to 91 degrees.
Bluegill are doing great on beetle spin sand worms. The big shell crackers are great to eat and fight like crazy.
Cat fish are slow for some reason, they are still biting worms, just slower than normal.
Please check out www.leekingbenefit.org and purchase your tickets for the 2005 Stratos/Mercury rig. Humminbird and Minn Kota have added some great accessories to dress up the boat valued at over $22,000.00. Your donation will help us find a cure for this terminal illness that we have no formal funding for. We depend on our Partners for a Cure, like you.
If you have any old tackle you would be interested in donating to our military men and women to use in Iraq during R & R, e mail me and I will get you in touch with some of the Rangers from Ft. Benning who will be going back and forth in the near future. They can use it as they are making up primitive things to use as they get a chance to relax a little while they are there keeping us safe back home. They are also making positive relationships with the local residents as they were never allowed to fish in Sadam's lakes. Can you believe going to prison for fishing in what should be public waters?
