Gulf Shores and Orange Beach fishing in March

Capt. Don McPherson
March 19, 2008
Orange Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

March fishing in Gulf Shores has produced a good redfish bite in nearshore waters. We have been catching most of the big bull redfish just off the shores of the Alabama Gulf from the 2nd sandbar to 2 miles off the beach. These fish are averaging around 20 pounds each. This is a blast on light tackle.

There have been a few amberjack caught offshore along with vermillion snapper, triggerfish, white snapper, king mackerel and scamp. The wind and seas have slowed down most offshore fishing this week but the forecast is looking good for next week. Everyone is anxious to get offshore and catch the big ones. Orange Beach fishing will continue to improve.

Orange Beach Fishing Forecast:

Spanish mackerel should be arriving nearshore anyday. They showed around mid March last year. Cobia (ling) should also be showing up in the next week or so.
