Gulf Coast Fishing Report - Orange Beach

Capt. Don McPherson
April 19, 2006
Orange Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Red Snapper Fishing in Alabama

Red Snapper season is finally here. We can fish Florida waters beginning April 15th and all gulf waters beginning April 21st. We are located near the Florida state line and this allows us to fish a week earlier for red snapper. We had a nice 6 hour catch and looked for cobia along the beach on the way to the dock. The red snapper bite was good on cigar minnows and squid.

The cobia bite has been really good with several in the 60-75lb range caught. We should experience some more good cobia fishing but many anglers will be offshore fishing for snapper after April 21st. The Red Snapper World Championship Tournament begins April 21st. $25,000 to the first place angler and another $25,000 to the first place boat. There is a lot of excitement in Orange Beach, Alabama as the anticipation grows.
