Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Cold Morning, Hot Fishing In Afternoon

I headed up to the lake around 10:30 a.m.and stopped by Regal Marine LLC. located right off exit 299 Dodge City. I talked with Heather about some up and coming work I needed done on my boat. After getting that squared away, I hit the road and headed for "big bridge". I had my son with me today, so I had a camera man. I just got a new camera after losing my other one about a month ago. I will have pictures of today's fish and a little video too. You'll have to forgive the camera work, my son did the filming. But for his first time, he did ok. We hit the water right around12:00 p.m. I was wondering how the cold night would affect the fishing. It did take long to find out and we didn't have to go far to get the action started. There was about a 5 - 10 mph wind when we started. We headed right to the island by big bridge and picked up were I left off the other day. I had about 5 different jerkbaits tied on poles and only fished two all day. I started with a Lucky Craft Pointer 95 Ghost Pearl Ayu and picked up a couple spots. I then switched over to a Lucky Craft Pointer 100 sp in the same color and picked up some with a little more size. After catching 5 off the island I went under big bridge and across to the point. I fired the 100sp toward the point and hooked up with a slot spot. This continued with several 1 1/2 - 2 pound spots and one big one. I caught 11 fish on that point, all on the Lucky Craft 100sp. I fished it the rest of the day and keep whacking them. We caught most our fish on points, I didn't fish back in many pockets. I boated over 30 fish in a little more than 3 hours, not many dinks. Checkout my website, I should have a video up by Saturday morning. I will have new video and pictures up weekly.

If your interested in fishing Smith Lake, right now the bass fishing is on fire.
