Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Smith Lake
September 11th, 2012

After spending the last several days on the water, everyday but one was very productive. On the slower day finding the fish wasn't the problem, but getting them to shallow the shad was. It was all about the short bite that day. Other than that day the bite continues to pick up. With the lake sitting 6 1/2 feet below full pool, we're back to a normal lake level for this time of year. I have found several good groups of fish on the lower end of the lake and have had the most success in the early morning. Live bait continues to produce the best, with spoons or bucktails as the top artificial baits. Most of the early morning fish are still being caught between depths of 28-50 feet. I will be fishing several afternoons this week, so I'll have more updates on the nights by Thursday.

I would also like to thank everybody who has already joined the Striper Club. We have 15 members in the first two months. I expect will have between (25-30) by years end.  Not bad for a premium members club that will top out with 50 members. That's right, this club was meant to help people find fish and network with other members. To many club members could lead to very crowded times on the water. With the number set at 50 members, that leaves 35 spots still open. Contact me (205)503-2020 if you have any questions or would like to see the site first.  I'll give you a temporary user name and password to check it out. If your looking to get on the water and know where to fish, this is the club for you. The money you spend on the club will pay for it self by saving you time, gas,  and wasted bait($). Plus if you join in September, you will receive a free three arm umbrella rig with 7 bucktail jigs and a Fishing 24-7 Striper Club decal.
