Guided spey fly fishing skeena river terrace bc canada

The photo of the week shows a beautiful summer run Steelhead taken on a swung fly in the lower Skeena drainage, as you can see this is a beautiful creation and when an angler is fortunate enough to get a pull from a fish like this it's all smiles. When this above average Steelhead took the fly it went immediately upstream, typical of larger Steelhead, unaware the client reeled this fellow close to the shoreline then all of a sudden the aggressive nature kicked in and off he went, and into the backing was the drill, finally after a long tug of war this wild beast was digitized and released into the glacial waters of the BC North, this is the dream the Steelhead angler was after. Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated November 2 – November 9, 2008
(Number 96)

Dear Fishing Friends:

SUMMARY: The weather is normal for this time of year, mostly cloudy with rain showers. The rain at times has been heavy but none of this has affected the water conditions. The snow line is high in the mountains but getting lower every day. The two main rivers we fish now are the Kalum and Zymoetz (Copper) Rivers. Both these rivers are in good shape and have good runs of Steelhead in them. There are rivers north of us with good runs of Steelhead also. I am referring to the Cranberry, Meziadin and Bell Irving Rivers. Trout fishing on the Kitimat River is very good right now. Check out the Ron Wakita report below.

Many people book three trips per year to our area; one trip in the spring (March-April-May), one trip in the summer (June-July-August) and one trip in the fall (September-October-November). They love having the same guide but fishing for different fish in different areas.

Be sure to check out my website at www.noelgyger.ca for news bulletins, mid week fishing updates, conservation, my history, quality waters strategy, special guided fishing trips, video clips, scenic river photos, wildlife photos and others, comments from past guests, informational articles, archived fishing reports from 1996 through 2002 and a sportfishing market place. I hope it meets with your entire satisfaction.

CURRENT REPORT and summary for Northern Coastal Rivers:

Fishing Report from: Ron Wakita of Reliable Guide and Charters

KITIMAT RIVER: As the snow creeps lower and lower down the mountains we have not yet received any snow in the valley. We usually receive our first snow fall in the last week of October but this year we have received large amounts of rain instead. Despite the amount of rain we have received the Kitimat River has remained fishable.

Since retention of Coho closed October 31st, trout fishing has been the focus on the Kitimat River.

Ariel Kuppers who is an associate guide for Reliable Guide and Charters while doing some personal fishing this week had some exceptional days trout fishing. Ariel was fishing Goose Creek which is a tributary of the Kitimat River with a "Pink Worm Combo". The "Pink Worm Combo" comprises of a 2 1\2" Pink Worm and half of a dew worm. This rig can either be float fished or bottom bounced. This "Pink Worm Combo" has evolved over the years and was first developed by Pat Oliver. Pat and I have ordered and tried different colours and sizes of worms over the years until the "Pink Worm Combo" emerged to the top of the list. It is amazing how the different methods and favorite lures that evolve on different river systems.
Being in the Tackle business has allowed us to be in constant contact with all the Fishing tackle manufacturers. I receive samples at all the Tackle Shows and through our guiding/charter company we have tested numerous lures and techniques over the years. We have had specialty colors and lures manufactured for our fishery. Over the years we have had Gibbs make some specific colours for the Kitimat River to fish Chinook and Coho. We have had Delta Tackle make some mini Hoochies to fish for Chinook. We have had Luhr Jensen make some Hot Shots and Kwik Fish. We have spent countless hours planning, designing and fishing different rigs in pursuit of the ultimate lure for a specific species. The search for better and more effective lures and techniques is ongoing!

DOUGLAS CHANNEL: Not much to report from the Douglas Channel this week as the weather has not been favorable for fishing. The forecast is for calm winds this weekend so some boaters should be out fishing for winter springs. Stay tuned to this report for updates. Tight Lines and good luck fishing. Ron Wakita
