Long Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

The bluefish are in, and in heavy. Those who get out in a boat pretty much can't miss. All along the connecticut shoreline run and gun fisherman are finding birds and blues working over bait all over the place. Find the terns and you'll find the blues. If you get into a school of surfacing fish with no hook ups try a small deadly dick or castmaster you may find yourself on the end of a hard fighting bonito. Especially around the watch hill and stonington area. The race, bartletts reef, and watch hill are all sure bets. If your looking for bass, get yourself some live eels and pitch them out at night. If you have a small boat stay away from the race, if the rip doesn't get you the wakes from the bigger boats probably will. Try bartlett's reef, Hatchett's, or the mouth or the connecticut river. It's that time of the year for threewaying the sluiceway, outgoing tide being the best. Most of our trips have been at night lately, and the next month will be the same. We've been killing them on live bait. If you happen to get into some areas were you can find bunker or shad pick some up and drop them at the first drop off you can find. Good luck and remember, let your next fish go to catch another day.
