Long Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bass and blues have hit the race to fatten up for their long hall south. Trolling wire during the slack tides and drifting the middle race during the faster part of the tide seems to be the ticket. You can also find them working over bait on the surface. Small cast masters, poppers, or jigs will work well. If you throw into a school of bait busting fish and you can't seem to get them to bite pull out the ten pound test outfit and throw a deadly dick at them. You may be in for a heck of a fight with a false albacore or bonito. Hickory Shad have thinned out a bit but the porgies have picked up the slack. Take a few and liveline them at your favorite reef. This is the best time of the year to hook some trophy bass so put on the warm clothes and get out there.

The offshore scene has been spotty at best. There has been some medium class bluefin being taken at the dump along with some descent shark action. Your best bet at some nice tuna is out to the canyons and beyond. Finding a calm day might be your only problem getting out. Pay close attention to the weather, you don't want to fight a north wind coming home in rough sees.

We still have a couple 4 hour after work trips to the race open if your looking to get a work out fighting bass and blues one after the other.
