Eastern Long Island Sound and Block Island Sound

Long Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

THE HICKORY SHAD ARE HERE!

And the big stripers are right on their tails, there’s nothing better (as stripers go) than being on the water at sunrise, a light fog on the water, calm and quiet. Then wham a 40 pound bass hammers the live bait you have attached to the end of your line. Twenty pound test, ten feet of water, and your drag screaming. I can’t get enough of it. We’ll that’s what our customers have been experiencing lately. I believe there are going to be many more 40+ bass caught this year than in previous. Since the recovery of stripers the fish have gradually been getting bigger and bigger, makes sense right. We’ll than it also makes sense the record will be broken but just not yet. Live bait and chunks are my favorites for big linesiders. As for a report, bass have been on and off in the race, fishing around the slack has been doing well for us. Try drifting bucktails tipped with a mario squid strip and trolling umbrella rigs on wire. Closer to shore the mouths of all the rivers are producing, look for areas where there is a sharp drop off on the edge of a flat and rocks/reefs. If your not sure where, look for changes in the water like rips, boils and stuff like that. And of course working birds are a sure sign there are fish there.

Fluke fishing has still been spotty, I hope it picks up soon. If you would like to see a picture of the 46lb. striper caught by one of our customers this weekend visit my website at http://www.geocities.com
