Long Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

A somewhat slow start to the weekend ended with a bang. A cold front moved through the area Fri. afternoon making for some tough conditions Fri. night. Thunderstorms offered up quite a light show but seemed to turn off the bass. We had no problem hitting the fluke though. Seaflower reef offered up several keeper fluke apiece for Friday’s customers, plus a few keeper bass at sunset Hint, if you are fishing the day after a cold front slow everything down, you may have to put the bait right in a stripers face for him to take it.
Saturday (the day after the front), turned the stripers off for a couple from Simsbury, but again the fluke didn’t disappoint, they had all the action they wanted with keeper fluke to 22” off Isabella beach.
Sunday, a group from NY got out early and hammered the bass on live eels and hickory shad. All fish were caught on spinning outfits and 20 pound test. After limiting out on bass to 44” and an 18” fluke on a live eel in the first two hours we decided to pick up and try some fluking at Ram Island. Again we were able to get steady action with the fluke. All in all, a great day of fishing and a very happy group with plenty of stories to tell on their long ride home.
