Long Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Recap of the last few weeks highs and lows, plus my view of the rest of the season for the Kingfisher.
Let's start off with a very nice day with our regular Robert from Meriden. He and his buddy's came out after having to cancel a trip an hour in due to thunderstorms. They were treated to a bonanza of super healthy hard fighting lunker stripers. In about two hours they limited out on fish from 36" to 50". Robert scored the 50" 45lb. fish of his life. Lann Rubin came out the next day and I expected much of the same. The wind didn't want to let that happen for him so we ended up chasing blues around and having alot of fun with them. The next couple weks up until today were on and off. It was pretty much a two day slammer trip with the usual 36" to 48" fish and plenty of them, then a day of where the hell did they go (excuse my french). Thank goodness for bluefish to make up for the striper disappearance for that day. Anyway, the last two weeks were well above average trips for our clients. Hig's for the weeks were a 50" by Robert, 49" taken by Dwight Wooten, a 150lb. Mako scored by Capt. Mark, and I was lucky enough to watch a 700 lb. Giant Tuna crashing the surface behind a dragger. The rest of the season should produce our biggest fish of the year. I imagine the weeks ahead to be days of non stop action on very big hungry migrating stripers, bluefish stacked like coardwood on the deep upslopes around the race and a few days of "where did all the fish go" when the weather brings in the cold wind out of the northeast. On those slow days we are counting on the blackfish to help us out.
