Not a slammer, but a good weekend aboard the Kingfisher

Capt. Mark Anderson
June 16, 2008
Long Island Sound - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fog slowed things down this weekend and the bait wasn't around but but we still managed to put our customers on plenty of action this past weekend. This is the time of year the that some days the live bait are here some days and some days not. By July they should take up residence and be available for the rest of the season. Anyone who has been out with us before knows that the live bait is the only way to consistantly catch limits of stripers in the 30, 40 and 50lb. class.
This weekend we were relegated to using artificals which worked great for plenty of action just no trophy stripers. Fridays group had plenty of action all day with blues and small bass along with a half a dozen keeper stripers for the cooler. Saturday was pretty much a mirror image of friday, and Sunday the guys had a ball with all the action they wanted with fish on every drift right off the bat. They also managed 5 keeper stripers for the dinner table. All in all everyone had a great time catching.

Long Island Sound Fishing Forecast:

There are plenty of fish around this end of the sound and I only see things getting bigger and better. Last year, the last two weeks of June and all of July were incredible. Many customers caught the biggest stripers of their lives. Although fluke have been tough to get, especially because the new size regulations, striped bass continues to improve year after year. Capt. Mark and I are looking to increase last years totals of 425 stripers caught over 34 inches.

Target Species:

Striped Bass
