Salinas, Ecuador Report

Salinas - Saltwater Fishing Report

During February we have enjoyed some of the best weather in the season in our shores. Even though it rains at night, during the day we see nothing but sunshine and not a single cloud covers the sky. The good thing is that the fresh breeze is always there for us, which is typical at this time of the year.
During last week we had 4 friends from Finland who had a chance to fish on board the STAMAS 34 for 5 days, and they saw plenty of activity. They were also happy to enjoy the local weather considering the freezing temperatures they have to put up with right now in the Northern European countries.
They saw about a dozen Stripes eating around them during the first 3 days and they managed to hook 5. They were unlucky not to raise them but they put up a good fight. The conditions itself were excellent with sunny skies, tons of bait, water at 78F. Not to mention the dozens of mahi and amberjacks that were hooked. They managed to raise a couple of each which gave them everyday a fresh and delicious Ceviche on board.
The fourth day, the water was at 80F but saw no action and even though the activity concentrated mostly on Stripes, they did see a couple of Blues eating on the last day of fishing but they were not interested in biting. They did manage to raise and release a Stripe that last day to make it up for the Blues they missed earlier in the morning.
Each one left with their personalized Bluemarlin polo type shirt and were surprised to see how our coastline offers many amenities they enjoyed like the famous surf town north of Salinas called Montaņita, which is a must for all coastal travelers and we always recommend.

We are expecting to continue the season in Salinas until the end of April, in which we prepare for the Manta season and its giant Marlin that always pop up until the end of the year.
