Biscayne Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report
With the wind and other factors forcing me to stay in port I've been suffering but I was able to head out once this week and make the best of the near 20 MPH east winds. The goal was to get the rods bent early and often and the bountiful finger channels of Biscayne Bay did not let us down. This is simple and fun fishing and winter time is the best time to fish these channels. We started by anchoring in a typically productive channel, putting out a block of chum and dropping live shrimp and ballyhoo chunks to the bottom along with some free lined shrimp. The action is consistent and with great variety like, groupers, mutton snappers, mangrove snappers, trigger fish, Etc… This is a great way to keep kids entertained and adults busy cleaning fish later in the day.
Biscayne Bay Fishing Forecast:
March is technically the beginning of spring but it isn't until late March or early April that spring gets into full swing in Miami's Biscayne Bay. Although I try to savor every month and "season" in the bay, it is spring that gets most locals smiling ear to ear including myself. A typical spring day in the bay has big tarpons beginning to move allowing for classic sight casting, bonefishing the entire day due to the milder temperatures, permits returning in greater numbers, and the occasional big mutton snapper on the flats, I can't wait! If you've always wanted to chase the big three, the time is coming so start making plans and book a guide.
