Biscayne Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today in south Biscayne Bay I had chance to do a little Fly-rodding myself with my friend Chris Calvano of the Fly Shop of Ft. Lauderdale! It was a picture perfect June morning, with the flag at Bayfront Park Marina dropped motionless and a clear sky, I knew it would be a great day! Just as I thought we saw pods of bonefish cruising and tailing as soon as we got up on the flat! After cruising to one of my favorite spots on the west side we got on the fish almost immediately. Alot of the fish we were seeing were in the double digit range, they were cruising over the white sand holes which made them very visible!

I managed to pick off an 8lber with the flyrod while armed with the trusty old snapping shrimp while standing on the poling platform, which by the way make great casting platforms when you need them to! This fish had quite a bit of energy as he peeled of about 3 quarters of my backing. After he put up a great fight I got him in the skiff for his photo opp then sent him on his way!

I always find that smaller flies work best during the summer months, with snapping shrimp, gotchas, and charlies tied on #4 hooks being some of your best bets! With the heat of summer here, it's time to set our alarms for dark:30 and get out early to get that goodmoring bite, although the bite can be just as good in the late afternoon towards sunset! Thats all for now, I'll be getting out early this week for some more, I'll let you know how it goes!
Catch em up................Capt. Joe!
