Biscayne Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

This is the time of year where the bonefish switch it up a bit and I usually find this time of year that my spring and summertime haunts arent as productive. On the oceanside however I've been seeing good numbers of fish schooling on the deeper edges of the oceansinde flats. For us fly fishermen its imperative to have a fly that gets down a bit deeper rather than the light weight bugs we would be throwing at a summertime tailer! As simple as it sounds, the good ole Clouser Minnow will do the the trick, I've just been letting it get down to eye level and give it quick little hops and low and behold usually (hopefully) the line comes tight! We've been having some 5 fish days, although you might not think its as spectacular as hooking up with a tailer a sunrise, it's still a bonefish on fly!
Closer to civilization, the Tarpon have also been showing up around the lighted bridges of Miami. We've been jumping 20 + fish in a night and landing well, not as many! White flies are the key, all white seaducers, decievers, and my favorite, and all white bunnystrip toad will do some damage at the right bridge. Ofcourse the weather this time of year is about as unpredictable as gas prices making us have to pic our days wisely. With January more than half gone and with each day bringing us closer to those Spring days, hopefully filled with rolling Tarpon and tailing Bonefish, can't wait! Talk to ya next time, catch em up..........Capt. Joe!
