Another Great Tarpon Season

Capt. Andy Boyette
June 17, 2008
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon Fishing has continued to be good in Boca Grande. However the pattern has been different than years past. The tarpon have staged in slightly different areas and established different lanes of movement. This pattern has caused confusion among some anglers who are targeting theses tarpon and setting up previous patterns or target sites. The tarpon seem to have moved from high traffic areas to less likely areas so if you are willing to search for tarpon rather than boats success has been greater. Most of the tarpon caught on morning trips have been in the 130-180 range with some 200 lb tarpon in the mix. Afternoon Boca Grande tarpon trips have seen tarpon in the 90-130 range with some larger fish mixed in.

The bait population in the Boca Grande area is the largest I have seen and tarpon should hold for quite some time. The July month will be a better than normal based on the pattern I see and should continue well in to the late fall tarpon run. Boca Grande will continue to hold true to the label of Tarpon Capitol Of the World and fish should be caught in good numbers for the coming months.
