Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Boca Grande, Fl Report 11/29/09

Early this week fishing was fantastic due to beautiful weather and good tides. Seatrout, redfish and false albacore were abundant in our area. East winds allowed us to pursue the albies about two miles off the coast. Most were feeding hard and took almost anything you threw at them. Jack Joseph's, of Andover, Mass., hooked six one morning and added a few trout and ladyfish to the day later.

Steve Gibson, of Sarasota, ( a popular kyak guide) and I hit the albies very hard one morning too. After waiting two hours for the tide to get right, we hunted tailing redfish on the thin grass flats near Bull Bay. Steve landed four out of six hook-ups. The last one came on a Gartside Gurgler top-water fly.

Wednesday thru Saturday proved fruitless. A major front hit us on Wednesday and shut the fish down until today. Good weather is predicted and we will be getting off the full moon this week. Prognosis is excellent. Several species are showing up now that we usually don't see in the summer. Pompano and bluefish have entered our bays and are very active. Capt. Roy String told me that he caught a fair sized permit on the Turtle Bay bar on Tuesday. So more fish are getting more active as the winter approaches. Great weather, good tides and plenty of fish mean it is time to get on the water.
Fish Hard,
