great fishing now!

Capt. Van Hubbard

Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

3-11-09 fishing report by Captain Van Hubbard.

Beautiful weather and fine fishing.

We are catching some snook, a few pompano and a bunch of Spanish Mackerel. Kings will migrate in any day. Minnows are small but available and fishing is improving every day. Water temps have warmed up to almost seventy in the near shore Gulf and mid seventies in the inside protected waters. We are seeing more and larger fish as waters improve daily. This is it and it's time to go fishing.

Craig Rutherford and friends Andrew and Wade fished yesterday and we did have to hunt to locate minnows but found plenty when we scored. We landed a nice tripletail in the Gulf but saw no signs of kingfish yet. We found a few pompano and landed one plus some macks. Waters are clear and sight fishing is recommended. We moved inside looking for trout and thanks to a tip for another captain found lots of fat Spanish in about ten feet of water. We anchored up and started chumming with the live minnows in not time we had fish striking around the boat. You had to be ready as your bait hit the water or you got cut off by the streaking macks. We had a ball landing about twenty before we decided to look for something else. We landed a Wade landed a 28.5 inch snook for dinner and we called it a day. They had plenty of fish for dinner and enough to share when they get back to Orlando.

With no cold weather on the horizon we can expect to see move fish every day! Let's Go Fishin' now! Captain Van Hubbard
