Lots of snook and redfish around Boca Grande.

Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

8-12-09 fishing report by Captain Van Hubbard.

Just returned from a short vacation and found the fish waiting for my return.

We went to Atlanta for a few days to see the niece and nephews before they went back to school. It was hot but always fun to see kids play and enjoy themselves. I have trips the next couple of days so I took a scouting trip this AM. Baitfish are still plentiful and I also found some big snook and redfish for William and his sons to tackle.

It was calm and I was not in a hurry so I could see the showers of minnows all over. As I idled around there were snook most everywhere they were supposed to be and lots of big ten pound an up trophies. As I poked around farther I found some larger than usual redfish plus a few slot fish. There are even some nice speckled trout by the baitfish schools. Best of all was there are plenty of fat mullet everywhere right now. These may not excite everyone but you Florida Crackers will enjoy fried or smoked mullet for the next few months.

Short and sweet but I'll try and share how well they bite after tomorrow's trip. Let's Go Fishin' soon. It looks like we will enjoy our best September snook fishing in decades when the season opens the First. October fishing should be awesome with good weather, abundant fish and minnows! PS I did see and hear about a few tarpon also.
