don't miss this hot action.

Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Life is great and fishing even better.

It's been a busy live recently. I have enjoyed some good fishing and survived a mile stone birthday last Saturday. Most of my family made it up to Tarpon Springs for a family dinner at a small but special family restaurant named "Zante's". Brad treated us like family and even cooked up some fresh mackerel we caught and brought him. We had a great meal and tons of fun.

We seem to be over hurricanes at least for the moment. It has been challenging to get weather and clients together but I have found fish when we get out. We had a few days of hot king and Spanish Mackerel action. Most were 5-10 pounds but we had one hit the scale at 22 pounds. We have had plenty of minnows around and little tunny were so thick we had trouble getting away from those brutes. The tunny are tasty but such strong fish that they wear us out after a few 10 pound fish. The macks are fast fish and wear out after awhile. Bag limits are liberal on the macks and they allow us enough fish to share with family and friends. The action is usually fast and furious with multiple hookups common. If winds are down this is the hot ticket and much easier to catch than a Rays playoff seat.

Snook, redfish and trout are available and biting most days. Minnows are still plentiful and should be for at least a month. Trout close next month and snook slow down after it cools off. Reds are bunched up and we do get lucky and enjoy some of those, "reel up all you want to" trips. All three are frequently caught in the same spots now and a few tarpon have been seen. We saw several outside this AM and some small ones inside this PM. The hard decision now is what do we target?

We are even catching some tasty pompano now. We had ten today. A few were very nice three pound golden nuggets. I saw a few permit the other day but could not coax a bite. Cuda are everywhere and sharks are around if you feel tough enough to tangle with one of the 6 – 7 footers we are seeing daily.

Boat traffic is down mostly now and weekends are not as busy as spring fishing. I still recommend week days but weekends are fine outside and can be ok inside early. This is as good as it gets. Don't miss out! Let's Go Fishin' soon! Captain Van Hubbard
