Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Capt. Andy Boyette
February 27, 2005
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

The Bite Heats Up

Spring is all but on us and the Snook are moving out of the rivers and starting to feed. With signs of live bait starting to show Snook fishing will only improve. Top water early in the morning on high tides and at night near docks and lighted bridges for the keepers. Trout fishing has been great and has improved each year. Big gator trout are becoming the norm and will take about any offering form live shrimp under a popping cork to a plastic jig of most any color. Redfish have been hit and miss with several schools moving up on the bars on a rising tide in the northern part of the harbor. But some days they just don't show.

Tarpon fishing is just around the corner and fast approaching. I am taking inquires daily and booking up quickly i still have numerous days left but I have a lot more trips on the book this year at this time than for the same time last year. Most good tarpon guides book up prior to the season. So weather you are considering fishing with me or any of the other numerous veteran tarpon guides I would suggest you start putting your plans together so you don't get caught searching later.

Kingfish should start making a showing as the water temps begin to rise. The last few years I have seen the fish run further offshore in are area than normal so you may want to start looking at the 10-15 mile mark near the numerous artificial reefs.
