Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Capt. Andy Boyette
April 4, 2005
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Florida Spring Fishing

Snook are on the move now leaving winter haunts and heading to the beaches. You will find them at mangrove islands on the points as they make their track to the passes. Usually when you do find them they are in the eating mood fattening up for the spawn. Once located a live well full of white bait will keep the bite hot. Don’t be surprised if a redfish show up and move the snook off for a while. These two species will often take turns in you chummed up spot. Redfish should become more plentiful and be on the bigger side. Schools of Reds will be wide spread until the weather gets hotter when they tend to separate and stay under the bushes. Seatrout are still making a big show with 4-5 pound fish becoming more common.

Kingfish are out on the beaches form 5-10 miles form shore. Artificial and natural reefs are holding good bait pods keeping these fish around for an extended period. The winds however are keeping smaller boats in shore but there are still a few good hours to give it a shot before coming in out of the wind. Anchor up if you can and drip oil and hang a chum block and bring the fish to you.

Tarpon season is about to begin and small pods of fish have been seen on the beach. Once the weather holds to a warm pattern on a daily basics these mighty beast will make their presence well known. I am about 60% booked for May and June so if you are looking for a trip you better get on the phone and find someone to take as most oterh guides I have spoke to are also booking up.
