Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

King Fling

King Fish are in full swing and large numbers of fish can be encountered as the head south for the winter. My favorite tactic is to catch a live well full of live bait anchor up on some near shore structure and chum the fish to you with a mix of live bait as well as a chum bag hanging over the side. Once they show up the action can be none stop.

Choice of tackle is a light-spinning outfit with 150+ yards of 10-pound power pro attached to a stinger rig. For the stinger rig I use #4 wire, 30lb swivel, a 2/0 live bait hook, and a 4x strong treble. Take the swivel and connect it to about 12-18 inches of wire then connect the wire to the 2/0 live bait take another 4-8 inch piece of wire and join the 2/0 live bait hook to the 4X treble. Length is determined by the length of you bait.

Once you have fish in you area cast out live baits and hang on. When you hook up let the fish run and don’t try setting the hook it will happen on its on. Once he makes his initial run put as much line back on the reel as possible and try not to fight the fish until he is about done usually about 2-3 good runs.

Also take some home its good to eat. A few years ago I shot a TV show with Blair Wiggins from Addictive Fishing and he asked if I had ever fried King Fish at the time I had only smoked grilled and or barbequed it, But Today it’s FRIED ONLY for me.

Good Things Come To Those With Bait!
