Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Capt. Andy Boyette
February 13, 2007
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Temps Drop Fishing Picks Up

Trout fishing continues to very good with limits of trout in the keeper range and oversized fished in the mix. Deeper flats with scattered potholes are worth your attention. Drifting these flats while casting to the edge of the potholes with various jigs until fish are located, once you hook up anchor the boat and spend some time working the area, after some time move on and repeat the pattern.

With the cold weather that finally blanketed the area big red fish have moved into shallow water potholes and can be taken with cut bait soaked on the bottom. The key here is patience; redfish have a keen sense of smell and will find you offering if left in the soaking long enough. It’s also a good idea to scatter the area with cut bait to chum the area to increase your chances.

Offshore snapper and grouper have continued to good when the weather allows you to venture out. Deeper water is producing bigger fish but I expect that the cold fronts we have had will move these fish closer to shore.

Tarpon season will be here in a short time and my book is beginning to fill up for May and June. I have most of my morning trips filled but the afternoon trips are mostly still available. Making you plans early is the key to fishing with a successful Captain.
