Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
July 14, 2003
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon are still bitting.

Fishin’ has been fine. We are not as busy now but still getting out enough to stay on top of things. We had some great tarpon action last Friday. We had to look to locate a hungry school but they chewed when we got on them. Two, triple hook-ups. Almost, to much action at once. Three at a time only works with experienced anglers. We had silver kings busting baits beside the boat. Some were free jumping. our temperatures are hot but fish action helps keep things tolerable. Tarpon will stay around for the next couple of months. Some days the fish are easy to get on others days it takes some looking. The area is beautiful so it’s fun to explore.

We have also had some snook for Catch and Release if you are interested. We try to let them do their spawning thing but exercising a few helps get us into the fishy groove sometimes. Some big ones are around right now. Lots of smaller ones for the September season opening. The baitfish are thick but most are still small. We do have nice threadfins for big fish baits. Some trout and reds if you don’t mind riding a little. Baitfish are perfect size for these species. Lures are great to.

We are taking off a few days to go scalloping for a few days. It’s time to get in the water and enjoy some tasty treats.

Let’s Go Fishin’ soon, Captain Van Hubbard
