Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard

Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

The snook and redsa are biting, Let's Go Fishin'.

9-22-03

We enjoyed a great week of weather and fishing. This week looks like it will be a bit wetter but fish don’t care. Only a few boats but lots of bait and fish. The biggest challenge is created by so many baitfish. The fish can close their eyes and open wide to fill up. The waters are clearing nicely, as rains are less frequent. When we get our first fronts and the water temps start to drop expect fantastic fishing. And it’s darn good right now. We usually need to wait until late this month for hot action but no one is complaining about early good fishing.

Snook are way ahead of usual and redfish are peaking now. Lots of trout are down in Charlotte Harbor to, some nice ones. A few nice Spanish are enjoying all the baitfish both in and outside. We had one almost five pounds last week. I was looking for the gaff it was so large. Kings were early last year and may do it again. We are due some pompano but we seem to get teased not pleased recently. Some good reports both north and south of us and a few passing thru. Crab traps start in the water in about two weeks so tripletail will hang out around them soon..

We saw reds schooling and tailing last week. It’s been to long since we enjoyed good redfish action. This is the best time. The moon this weekend could be the best fishing for years. Snook rules are a pain but we have got more fish. Less really is more this time. Your odds of a keeper are excellent. Lots of almost big enough snook and a few too big. The reds are mostly too big but enough slot fish for dinner most days. What are you waiting for; Let’s Go Fishin’, soon, Captain Van Hubbard.
