Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
May 8, 2004
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Captain Van is alive just to busy catching fish to write; sorry.

5-08 Let’s Go Fishin’ report

It’s been hectic but fishing is fine.

The new 23 Dorado is up and going strong. She came home the Monday after Easter and started fishing the next day. We have had to work around some windy days; some very windy days of 30 MPH but the new LGF is great. She is a beautiful blue and we added a new Lowrance 104 color chart plotter/sonar machine. She is large enough for my old eyes and clear even with my sunglasses. I have not even begun to learn all the feats she can perform but love her already.

Anyway back to the fishing. Our waters are cooler than normal for May but very clear so the fish are visible. Snook season closed out with a bang. Susan and Jack Noble were guests of Dr. Norval Marr of St. Pete. And we landed our three fish limit on Friday the 30 before 11 AM. What else could we do but stop in and the Marker 17A Café for a fresh snook dinner. They fried it up and we had the best lunch we could ask for. We had some trout and smaller snook to. The Noble’s were in town from Birmingham, Al. for Norval’s 80 th Birthday party. Norval was so happy when they got home from the trip his girlfriend thought he had been into the party favors early. I think they had fun!!!

This past week we have enjoyed some good trout fishing with a few reds and snook for extra credit. We saw a few cobia and caught one Friday first cast. Not big enough but fun on light spinning gear. Some of the snook have been dandies. See new photos on web site. Fishing has been good enough to keep us busy and smiling.

Tarpon are around but cooler waters have them way behind schedule so far. We expect action to improve any day. By the next new moon on 19th anyway. Sorry this is so brief but this captain is tired. Thank you for following us and; Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Van Hubbard
