Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
June 15, 2004
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

our Tarpon fishing has been as hot as the weather.

Fishing report for June 15th by Van Hubbard.

Charlotte Harbor fishing has been as hot as the temperatures.

We have enjoyed the weather and red hot catching. While our tarpon season started off slow it blossomed into a good year. Plenty of tarpon and big ones to. The schools have been abundant and usually hungry early in the AM. We start out with small crabs then switch to threadfin as the sun gets up. Michael Martin of Sarasota and New York, City had two fish in the 160 - 170 class on a recent trip. He slept good that night.

Redfish are bitting both live and artificial baits. They enjoyed good catches in the big red fish tour event last weekend. We have enjoyed brief flurries on live minnows during recent trips. Most are to big but lots of fun. The big bulls really pull or string off the reels. Some slot fish, 18-26 inches for dinner. The minnows have been scattered everywhere but may move with the fresh water rain runoff soon.

Trout were here but we have not targeted them with all the big tarpon around. We did finally get some hot pompano action. It was short and sweet. We enjoyed fresh pompano for lunch three days in a row at the Stump Pass, Market 17a Café. It’s so nice to bring clients in for a fish lunch of our own fresh fish. Really makes the day sometimes.

We can expect good tarpon action and less boats as the Summer heats up. Reds should begin to school up. It’s time to fish early and get in before the evening thunderstorms. Play it safe and enjoy the Summer fishing. Let’s Go Fishin’ soon, Captain Van Hubbard.
