Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
October 10, 2004
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Finally fishing is great come on down.

Fishing is great; don’t wait for cold weather, snook and reds are biting.

Weather is co-operating and fish are hungry. We had some nice snook to 30 inches by Bob Wray of Englewood last week. Baitfish are almost to easy. They are everywhere right now. We have had some nice trout to add to other catches. Redfish have been dependable with several keepers every trip recently. Black drum have been and added attraction. We are seeing some really big ones too. Several days we saw schools of black drum ranging from 5 to at least 25 pounds. We used shrimp and took several eating sized drum.

We also found a few nice pompano last week. They have not been thick but we have enjoyed some great eating. These fish have been running up to over 3 pounds. Lots of fun and tasty. We used jigs sweetened with sand fleas and shrimp. Three of us did get 6 Friday afternoon. Only one undersized one.

I’ve heard rummer of sharks, some kings and macks showing up. With all the minnows around the beaches I expect the migratory schools any time. If the winds stay down we’ll get them soon. Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard
