Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
December 2, 2004
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Santa has sent us an early Christmas present; great weather, go fishin'.

12-2-04

While it’s snowing up North we still have sunny skies and good fishing in Boca Grande.

We have been enjoying some great weather and fishing recently. It’s been so nice I’ve been going out with Merry Beth to get some hot photos; I just need to figure out how to get them from Kodak Easy share to my web page? I’ll get it when the winds blow us off the water.

We have a nice tarpon trolling for kings mid November. It was about 75 pounds and posed for pics. Had to handle on 20 pound kingfish gear but quality drag helped. We still have some kings and nice Spanish. One Spanish was 4 pounds yesterday and we had a 30 pound king also. The king ate a l4 inch Spanish we had out for the big barracuda cruising around our boat. Spinner sharks were still jumping all around us. Most small but some up to about 7 feet and a 100 pounds. Schools of nice sized Spanish frothed the surface several times while we were anchored trying to get the permit to bite. We had several permit last week from 10 - 15 pounds. We saw hundreds many of them much larger.

I had an inshore trip last Wednesday an we had a nice 28.5 inch snook to take back to the Stump Pass Marina, Marker 17a Café for lunch. It was awesome. Don’t wait to long as snook closes the 14th. They also caught lots of reds but most were almost big enough. Tons of fun and a beautiful day on the water.

The Winter birds are back; white pelicans, eagles and so much more. Get out and take advantage of this fabulous weather before it changes.

Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard.
