Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing is fair but getting better as it was up.

WebReport1-25-05

We enjoyed some great weather after the Christmas Holidays and tangled with some nice fish. The action was picking up by mid January when it got cold again. The warm weather was great but to good to last for dead of Winter. It’s been back to normal and I’ve got more time to play and catch up. Take some time with friends and family. And I am going to start updating the web pages next week. By telling you it helps me need to get it done.

I’m experiencing problems getting my photo images from Easy Share to email; anti virus is smarter than this operator. I have some nice shots and will get help soon to maneuver around this complication.

Our fishing is ready to pick up when these cold fronts slow down. We can expect red hot sheepshead action on the next two big moon phases. There are a few already teasing us but the schools are about to get together to spawn. This allows us to get them aggressively feeding near local passes. Anything these sheepies and whiting lack in glamor they make up for in abundance. They are tasty table fare too. We can get lucky and get into some plump pompano mixed in soon.

The cold North winds have things slowed down right now but they don’t last. Trout and reds are due to get hungry as it warms up next month. Snook season reopens in February but cold waters will have them lethargic for now. By mid to late this month big three, fishing should be good. We get some shots at nice cobia and tripletail in the near shore Gulf on calm sunny days. Some are big ones. This is sight casting to the specific fish. Lures and baits both work here.

It’s time to reserve your Spring dates the phone started to ring big time last week. The dates are starting to book up for March, April and May. Please ask any questions about specifics. I am glad to get back with the details ASAP. Thanks for your interest and Let’s Go Fishin’, soon. Captain Van Hubbard
