Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Happy Hollidays/ Let's Go Fishin'

Turkey day was great and I’m looking forward to a wonderful Christmas.

Fishing is dependant on the weather this time of the year. We have enjoyed some good fishing recently. The pompano moved in and we had several days we even limited out, 6 per person. They were nice big slabs also averaging 1.5 to 2 pounds. Snook and reds are available but the easy minnow fishing is not predictable again till spring. When we find minnows on warm days they still work but finding them is not predictable.

Everything moves with the wild north winds as the fronts push thru. Those cooler days concentrate fish for hot action. The trick is to locate the pools of fish and not freeze the clients. That’s where three decades of experience helps. We enjoy some warm days now also. The winter bird populations are up now also. The white pelicans are here and lots of shore birds. I saw several eagles on today’s trip.

Trout are closed till New Year day and snook closes on December the 15th. It’s good that those pompano are around to treat our taste buds. Some nice cobia and tripletail are co-operative on the calmer days in near shore Gulf waters. Many times they can be taken on fly and artificial lures. We like the MirrOLure Top Dogs for cobia. They cast easy and rattle to call in those brown torpedoes.

Remember that fishing gear and guided trips are great gifts for loved ones. You may want to go along and share some quality time with your dad or son. It’s really special when we have three generations onboard. Please enjoy the woods and waters during the holidays; if you can find time between shopping. Be safe and thankful for all the good things we have.

Merry Christmas and Let’s Go Fishin’. Captain Van Hubbard
