Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
August 10, 2006
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

a close call but we have good fishing again.

Right now it looks like we may get lucky.

We had a brush with some red tide. It looked bad for a few days but the dead fish are gone. We lost some bait minnows and some fish but waters look very good yesterday and today. It’s impossible to predict what we can expect for the future; right not its fine.

We had fresh redfish for dinner tonight. It’s been challenging to find slot fish recently. This one was lost in a basin buy the boat docks. We did fine some small ones by an oyster bar last week. Nothing is predictable but nice surprises are here if you go fishing.

Snook are looking good again. We found a few fish yesterday and several small schools today. One fish we landed was about thirty inches and nine pounds. We found plenty of smaller twenty to twenty-five inch fish. I saw several trophy snook but they were spectators when our minnows swam by. It’s nice to have fish feeding again, last week was difficult.

Baitfish are abundant when we locate em. Some areas are still lacking activity while others are teaming with it. I find it much more productive to concentrate effort in the active zones.

We did hook a mackerel in the pass at the tide change. The dolphin were very active and we saw some happy manatees yesterday. Things are not back to normal but it was a wonderful two days on local waters.

Let’s go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard
