Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Capt. Van Hubbard
April 23, 2007
Boca Grande - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tarpon are close.

It has been windy but we are catching some good fish.

We are not enjoying our best fishing but we are getting some quality fish. Dan had a 31 inch snook today and his son caught several undersized snook and some jacks and bluefish. We saw manatees and dolphins every where today. This helped us as the bite was slow.

Yesterday I went up to Sarasota and checked out the weigh in for their SKA Kingfish tournament. Merry Beth and crew aboard the In Hot Pursuit landed a nice twenty pounder. Brian Hassen of St. Pete won the new Contender with a forty two pound smoker. It was nice to see old friends in the SKA circuit.

Saturday we started out with a slot and oversized redfish. Then the jacks moved thru for some heated action. We picked up a few snook but no big ones. Trout we hiding from us but we had a nice flounder. It was nice to see a few coming back.

Friday we work the wind and struggled for bait but some of the other captains helped me out. We found several nice groups of snook but they were not interested in our choice minnows. We finally found some hungry for in a warmer area after noon. The current flow was slow until noon and water still cool.

Thursday we went up the river and found a few tarpon holed up out of the wind. We found alligators and a few fish but no hungry ones. It was beautiful up in the brackish and fresh waters of old Florida. We enjoyed the different scenery and less wind.

I know this is short but I am going to bed it’s tough fishing with the wind but it is still fun. What a nice temperature to enjoy Spring while it’s still here. Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard
